Our aim:  to proclaim God’s glory as one body, displaying the life and love of Jesus

Confronting the taboo

There are things we just don't talk about. Like death and cancer. But these are important 'facts of life'.

Suddenly we have no option.
Our pastor is suffering.

Questions like 'Why do good people suffer bad things', look merely academic.

We find all sorts of people asking themselves 'What can I do to help?'

Richard has been in church despite the pain - an important part of our congregation.

Surprisingly there are good things coming out of this dark situation.

People in pain identify with Richard and seem more truly part of the church.

Our services are neccesarily more varied, with help from outside preachers, and a bigger role for those within the fellowship.

Perhaps more importantly people in the village (and beyond) know what's going on. Richard has been wished well by villagers he hardly knows.
He may not be 'doing the job', but he is still showing us all how God's love penetrates the very darkest places.

Does the good outweigh the bad?
Is Richard's suffering worthwhile?

Who's to say?

Text of the year (from Titus Ch 2, verse 14)
Jesus Christ….gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness
and to purify for himself a people that are his very own,
eager to do what is good.”
